This hinged, metal gadget is a queen bee catcher. There are times when a beekeeper needs to quickly, easily and safely (for both the human and the bee) remove the queen from her hive. Pressing together the petal-shaped lobes opens the bottom of the cage, while releasing the pressure closes it gently. The long, vertical openings are precisely calibrated to allow smaller drones and workers to escape while the queen bee is contained.
